“Having studied American History in college and being a longtime resident of South Florida with a true fascination with local history, I was very excited to have the opportunity to become a volunteer at the Fort Lauderdale History Center.
Serving primarily as a docent at the King-Cromartie House, it has been my pleasure to give guided tours to visitors of all ages. One of my favorite activities is to spend my Sunday afternoons sitting in the rocker on the front porch of the house dressed in my period attire and spending time chatting with curious passersby about local history. I am very impressed by the degree of interest that both residents and tourists show. To my delight, many decide to go into the museum for a full tour. However, my greatest reward is the expressions of appreciation from both children and adults for my time and passion in helping to both preserve and bring to life the history of Fort Lauderdale.”

“People who love to work with kids and adults, too, and love history will love volunteering at the Fort Lauderdale History Center.”
Ted Frauman, Education Volunteer
“If one is interested in history or desires to know more about local history, the Fort Lauderdale History Center is a great place to volunteer. A great range of volunteer activities are available. Above all, what really makes this a volunteering pleasure, is the welcoming, warm and dedicated staff.”
