By the mid-1920s, city fathers planned for a massive new water plant outside of town on "West Dixie Highway" (today's State Road 7). This photograph shows the Dixie Water Plant under construction, c. 1926. The water facility, now named the Peele-Dixie Water Treatment Plant, is still in operation and has been designated a local historical landmark.
