A little more than a dozen years after its founding, Broward County needed a new courthouse. Local architect John Peterman was given the commission. He designed an impressive Mediterranean Revival-style building with an ornate clock tower. The new courthouse opened in 1928 at the corner of SE 6th Street and 3rd Avenue.
