Fort Lauderdale's municipal offices and fire station were situated on the northwest corner of S. Andrews Avenue and 2nd Street. In the early 1920s, the city hired local architect John Peterman to design a more modern facility at the same location. He produced a handsome, if somewhat busy, Mediterranean Revival-style structure.
